Treatment
Most of my patients will receive a combination of cranio-sacral therapy, homeopathic remedies and also fascial unwinding during the course of their treatment. Some conditions lend themselves particularly well to one type of therapy alone - frozen shoulders and old injuries, for example, are most often treated using only fascial unwinding, whereas TMJ disorders are best resolved using cranio-sacral therapy.
Holistic, natural healing takes time and I encourage my patients to understand that this is a process and one to commit to investing in.
The following are examples of the conditions that I commonly work with:
Old and recent injuries
Nerve pain
Digestive disturbances
Asthma
Migraines and headaches
Menstrual disorders and period pains
Hormonal imbalances (including menopause)
Fibromyalgia
Peripheral neuropathy
Persistent neck and back pain
Torticollis
PTSD
Depression
Insomnia
Anxiety
ME
Chronic pain
Auto-immune disorders
Chronic Fatigue
TMJ issues
Stress
Whiplash
Muscle spasms, twitches and tics
Sexual dysfunction
Trauma
At the heart of many states of ill health, lies trauma.
For some patients the trauma is obvious, for others it is only its effects that are felt. Many approaches allow us to identify our trauma, and to learn how to ‘cope’ with its presence and varied effects on day-to-day life - but they do not allow us to truly release or resolve the trauma in our system.
Trauma always involves both the physical and the psychoemotional bodies and is largely mediated by the central nervous system - and so to effectively release trauma we need an approach that works with both its psychoemotional and physical aspects. In my experience, the most important physical aspect to address is the fascia - which, due to its structure, function and innervation serves not only as one of the bridges between the psyche and the tissues but also as a black box recorder: a physical store of memories, if you will.
But the black box isn’t only storing those memories as an archive for posterity, those archives are being read and re-read daily - informing your system how to feel and behave in day-to-day life and affecting the function of both your body and mind.
I see extraordinary results in my patients using the triad of Homeopathy, Fascial Unwinding and Cranio-Sacral integration - all of which are gentle and work at the patient’s own pace.
Scar Tissue & Post-Operative Effects
Due to the continuous web of fascia throughout our body, fascial adhesions and restricions caused by scar tissue and surgery can have surprisingly far-reaching effects on our overall health, not to mention the localised effects of pain and discomfort in the scar tissue or operation site itself. Fascial unwinding is often all that is needed.
Frozen Shoulder, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome & RSI
All respond extremely well to a course of gentle fascial unwinding, often leading to avoiding the need for surgery (with all of its possible complications).
Even if you cannot move the affected part due to pain or lack of mobility (for example, in the case of a frozen shoulder or a severe torticollis), fascial unwinding is still effective.
TMJ & Dental Integration
Tempro-mandibular joint problems are extremely common and notoriously difficult to resolve by conventional means.
The key in treating them is to take a holistic view of the entire person - to ascertain which imbalances, pulls and restrictions are acting on the TMJ, whether local or distant - and of vital importance: natural release of the lateral and medial pterygoid muscles by Cranio-Sacral Therapy.
Conversely, addressing imbalances in the tempro-mandibular joint and surrounding structures often releases the underlying pattern which is keeping a person in chronic discomfort or ill health of a completely different kind. Without a truly holistic approach it would be impossible to determine that lying at the heart of a pelvic floor issue, for example, was an imbalance of the TMJ.
Old & Recent Injuries
Unwinding of the fascia coupled with integration of the cranio-sacral system gently resolves the various restrictive patterns caused by injury - whether recent or historic, though the degree of mobility restored and pain decreased can be limited by the nature and age of the injury.
Cranio-Sacral Therapy is singularly effective in addressing the local and distal effects of head injuries and their sequelae, restoring balance to the meninges, the flow of cerebrospinal fluid and the subtle yet powerful relationship between the bones of the cranium.
